As a beneficiary of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program, the about 27 months of Donald Trump’s presidency have brought a wide range of emotions and affected his life and boxing career. ‘Unlike school, boxing is something I can do well. What I do in the ring is my job,’ López tells me. ‘If DACA goes away, if I get deported, I will no longer have the means to support my family and pursue my boxing career. I think of that, y está cabrón.’” #immigrantathlete #deportistasmexicanos #inmigrantes #sportsphotography #sportsphoto #fotografiadeportiva #immigration #boxing #boxeo #brooklyn #gleasonsgym #photojournalism #documentaryphotography #puebla #pueblayork #dreamers #undocumented #daca #dreamact . . . Joined by attorneys from Las Americas Immigrant Advocacy Center and organizers from Families Belong Together, Booker arrived in the Mexican border city to escort the five women to make their claims of fear of remaining in Mexico as they wait for their respective asylum hearings. The women, four Central American and one Cuban, covered their faces with folders to protect their identities as they walked across the Paso del Norte Bridge. Booker walked behind them up until the border line, where he talked to Customs and Border Protection agents who welcomed him and allowed the asylum seekers to walk into the United States. They had been sent back to Mexico after previously requesting asylum at the border, an official measure usually referred to as “Remain in Mexico,” but known officially as the Migrant Protection Protocols, according to Las Americas attorney Laura Rivas. These women, Rivas explained, were victims of labor trafficking and sexual assault in Juárez and thus felt in danger if they remained there. Booker crossed into Ciudad Juárez shortly after 10:30 a.m. and headed to a Chihuahua state-run immigration center next to the international bridge connecting the Juárez and El Paso downtown areas. The Democratic presidential hopeful met there with the women for more than four hours before starting their march towards the border, where CBP agents have been stopping immigrants from setting foot in the United States. But this time, a CBP officer welcomed Booker and allowed the women to continue their way down the bridge, where they were taking into custody. Rivas said it is uncertain how long these women will remain detained or how long their interview process will take. “We hope that senator Booker can get information of their cases to track them down and let their families know how they’re doing,” Rivas said. “[He] is supporting our clients in his role as a senator, which is a pretty powerful support." Booker declined making any statements only until reaching the U.S. side of the border.El año escolar en México ha llegado a su fin, y para mi primita Abigail eso significó también hacer el cambio de escolta en su primaria.
